Potato Face Mask for Acne Prone Skin

Now that I’m home for the summer, my mom has made it her goal to fix my acne/cyst prone skin. I have very oily skin (yay…. not), which leads to me waking up everyday with an oil well leaking out of my face. Even after using a clarifying/drying face wash, my skin will become oily again within hours. So my mom heard about the benefits of potatoes for oily skin so I figured I should give it a go!

For this face mask, all you need is half a potato and then 1-2 tablespoons of yogurt. Literally, that’s it. Even the lazy bum in me can do that!

Potatoes are great for a variety of reasons. First, they are filled with a lot of elements, like potassium, calcium and magnesium. These help promote healthy skin growth and prevent dryness and wrinkle formation. Potatoes also have vitamins, like Vitamin C. Vitamin C is really important because it helps with collagen production, which helps to maintain our skin’s firmness. Finally, potatoes also help with skin discoloration and can actually be used to “lighten” your skin (not drastically, but it does help with uneven skin tones if used regularly). Yogurt is great too because helps to moisturize the skin.

What was great about this mask when I used it was that it really dried out my skin. And unlike my normal cleansers, my skin stayed that way for pretty much the rest of the day! My skin felt tighter and actually looked a lot cleaner and brighter. And those pesky large pores around my nose and cheeks shrunk as well! So all in all, a great, simple mask to try at home!

On to the mask. First, take a potato and go ahead and peel it. Put the potato and skin into a blender/grinder, along with the yogurt.

Grind the mixture until it is paste like.

All you have to do now is apply it to your face, being generous in the areas that are more problematic. For me, that was my cheeks, chin and nose. Once your face is covered, allow the mask to sit for 15-20 minutes. Then, rinse of the mask with water and you are done!

I’m usually not one for masks and beauty DIYs but I really did enjoy this and most definitely will be making one again this week! Do you all have any masks or facial DIYs that you enjoy? Let me know in the comments! And if you try this, let me know what you think!

  1. May I just say what a relief to discover a person that truly understands what they’re discussing on the internet.
You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and
make it important. More and more people really need to check this out and understand
this side of the story. It’s surprising you aren’t more popular since you
    most certainly have the gift.

    • Nannette! This is one of the sweetest comments I have ever received! I’m glad you enjoyed the post and found it informational! As for the not “more popular” part, I’m glad that even with a small audience I can make someone smile and brighten their day, but I am flattered that you believe I deserve more growth! Hope all is well! 🙂
