Things I Heard in Medical School: Volume 21

The secrets always stay in clinicals. #Nursing #NursingStudent

I’m back! I took a bit of a break from blogging to focus on exams and learning how to become a functioning member of society again. And now, I am officially a third year medical student! Though I don’t have any more formal lectures in a classroom, I still get to hear ridiculous things from doctors, nurses, residents, patients and anyone in between. If you are within 10 feet from me, chances are that I am listening to whatever ridiculous thing you are saying.

As my first week of rotations comes to an end, I wanted to recap my time with some of the things I heard in the halls of the hospital. So, without any more stalling, here is TIHIMS:  VOL 21! Continue reading

What 2017 Gave to Me

Oh hey! I know, I know. I’ve been gone for a few weeks. Medical school and FINALLY BEING ABLE TO SLEEP can do that to you. But I am back in America (dang y’all, a lot has changed since I left), and that means I have to learn how to assimilate back into the real world. An open letter to myself: Slow down and breathe.

I’m a second-year medical student at St. George’s University in Grenada. If you are also a medical student or in a similar, grueling field, you can probably relate. I’m mainly writing this as a way to vent and get out all of this anxiety. But also because I know there are others in my class, and in the world in general, who feel the same way. If you know me, you know I hate crying and hate being weak. Well, today will be that exception. Today, I need to open up so I can move on. Feel free to share this post with anyone who needs a reality check or just needs some reassurance that this too shall pass. Continue reading
